The March 15th Deadline: Don’t Get Hit with Penalties
If your business is registered as an S-Corp (1120S) or a Partnership (1065), your federal tax deadline is fast approaching on March 15th.
- The Risk: Unlike individual returns, filing these late can cost you a penalty of $235 per month, per partner or shareholder. This can quickly add up to thousands of dollars in direct fines for your business.
- The Solution: If you aren’t ready to file, you can request a 6-month extension, but you must act before the 15th to stay in the “safe zone”.
The SEP-IRA Secret: It’s an Investment, Not an Expense
The SEP-IRA (Self-Employment Pension) is a powerful tool to build your “future tank” while reducing what you owe today.
- Tax Savings: This is a pre-tax deduction. For example, if your business earned $70,000 and you put $10,000 into a SEP-IRA, you only pay taxes on $60,000 for that year.
- Deadline: You must set up and fund the account by April 15th to qualify for the 2025 tax year.
